Critical appreciation of G .M. Muktibodh's The Void

CRITICAL APPERCIATION OF G.M  MUKTIBODH'S THE VOID

Breaking from the extention Chhayavad or Hindi Romantic Movement,  Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh represents Pragativaad ( Progressive Literary Movement ) in the post independence period.  His poetics yields a phantasmic surreal continuum of an effective experience of history. His poetic language reflects sanskritised philosophy of Body and Spirit. The poem " The Void " is the translated version of his poem " Shunya ", literally means Zero in English but in the poem,  it depicts the negative side of human mind.  This kind of negativity enslaves humans since the first ray of civilization and devours Humanity from within.

         -:  Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh :-

The Void as described in the poem,  a subconscious part of mind where from the dark desires arises, flourishes and lurks. Anger, Hatred, Demeaning etc water the void. Like  carnivores , the void eats up positive side of mind.  The image of ' pond of blood ' , 'carnivorous teeth ' portrays the ruthless, merciless side of mind. The Voidness is characterized by black complexion, barbaric and debased quality.
Human unconsciously nurtures the gloomy side of his soul by inflicting pain with ' fiery words and deeds ' , spreading negativity. It gives birth to its offspring in another soul in a chain reaction.
Void also contains cruelty and mercilessness . Human beings are described as ignorant as they are engaged in merry making . The poet is of the opinion Human beings should delve deep into the heart as the void eats up the good quality. Rather they are engaged in ' heavily armed mistakes ' or wars destroying lives; they are drinking the cup of Lethe overlooking the effects.
This ironic poem of Muktibodh contains literary devices like personification,  paradox,  alliteration and metaphor.  Utterly black void is a symbol of Death,  Menace and Evil.
